FARS (Firearms Application & Registration System) Procedure for Lower Twp. Applicants

EFFECTIVE 1-3-2022 - PAYMENT at the station will be required upon submission of your application, you will receive an email from the Department with payment instructions. 

PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS:  You will be receiving automated EMAIL updates from the system (from no-reply@njportal.com).  If there is an issue or question with your application, we may also contact you, most likely via EMAIL.


Please read ALL instructions FIRST and have all of your information ready before you begin, as you will have 20 minutes to complete the application before it “times out” and you have to begin again.

Step 1:  Go to https://www.njportal.com/NJSP/fars to begin your application (click the online S.T.S. 033 Form button).  You will need Lower Township Police’s ORI number to begin.  It is NJ0050500. After entry, check to ensure it states “LOWER TWP PD”

Step 2:  Complete the online application, using a smartphone, mobile device or computer. 

  1. If you have NEVER been fingerprinted for firearms purposes and you NEVER had a NJ Firearms ID Card, you are an INITIAL Applicant and check the top box on the app. If you are 21 or older and also would like permits to purchase a handgun, also check that box & enter the # of permits you are requesting. You will receive a confirmation email after a successfully submitting your application with a link to schedule fingerprinting with IdentiGO. Or you can call them at 877-503-5981 to schedule an appointment. There is a fee for fingerprinting that is paid to the vendor.
  2. However, if you HAVE been fingerprinted before for firearm purposes and HAVE a NJ Firearms ID Card, and require a new/updated ID Card, check the appropriate box and/or if you are requesting permits, check that box and enter the # of permits you are requesting. Upon successful submission of this application and credit card payment, you will have completed the application and 212A requirements and will receive a confirmation email.

Below are some tips on information that you will need:

  • Name & AddressALL information on your application needs to MATCH your driver’s license
  • If you are a NEW applicant - You will be required to Upload a recent, clear color image of your face taken within the last six (6) months. The photograph should resemble the one displayed on your driver’s license or passport. However, DO NOT use the photographs from those identifications as your image. The uploaded photograph MUST be taken in civilian attire against a light background, without wearing a hat or glasses. You may upload a recent, clear selfie or headshot with no one else in the photo, provided that the image adheres to the above listed requirements. Applications submitted with a photograph that does not meet the requirements may be cancelled. Please note that there are no refunds for cancelled applications. Supported file types - JPG, JPEG, and PNG with maximum file size limit of 10MB.
  • If you are a female, your MAIDEN Name or “N/A” is required on your forms. 
  • SBI # - Applicants that ALREADY have a Firearms ID Card, your SBI # is the # on your card.
  • References - Reference letters will be sent via EMAIL. Please have 2 references - names, addresses, phone numbers & emails ready to enter before you begin. Please confirm that you have a correct email addresses PRIOR to completing your application. Your references can complete the questions using a smartphone, mobile device, or computer.

The application is applicant driven, therefore missing/incorrect information will slow the progress of your application. If errors are made, email correct info to wilson@lowertownshippolice.com to see if the error can be corrected, as not all can be corrected and application may need to be redone.
LTPD FEES: - Initial ID Card - $50, Replacements/Updates - $0   E-Permits to Purchase a Handgun - $25 each (cash or check only) Prices are set by the State
